Product Overview

The business class VPL-DX146 3100 Lumens XGA 3LCD Portable Projector from Sony is designed to be flexible - whether you plan to install it permanently it or take it on the road with you. A single lamp provides 3100 ANSI lumens color brightness in Bright Mode, and a three-chip LCD imaging device renders a 1024 x 768 (XGA) resolution, 4:3 aspect ratio image. Through scaling the projector can also support a range of non-native resolutions up to Full HD (1920 x 1080) for video and UXGA (1600 x 1200) for computer sources. The lens features 1.3x optical zoom with a 1.37:1 to 1.80:1 throw ratio to help you get the desired image size in cases where placement options are limited.

Multiple ports allow the VPL-DX146 to receive video and audio from a variety of sources, including computers, Blu-ray Disc and DVD players, document cameras, HDTV devices, and more. It features a VGA port, an HDMI port, and composite video port as well as a 3.5mm mini jack input for analog audio. Alongside the A/V ports, there is an Ethernet port for network control or delivering presentations from any computers on the same network. Finally, two USB ports allow you to connect the projector to a computer, give "PC-Free" slideshows directly from FAT32-formatted USB media, or install the included IFU-WLM3 Wi-Fi dongle.

Performance
3LCD Technology
A beamsplitting prism sends red, blue, and green light through three monochrome LCD displays to render a video image. 3LCD design features no moving parts in the imaging system, although there is still a cooling fan, and is free of the "rainbow effect" artifact sometimes perceived on color wheel-based systems.
3100 Lumens Color Brightness
This projector features both 3100 lumens white brightness and 3100 lumens color brightness. Some projectors only specify the white brightness in their lumens ratings, even though in many cases color portions of the image will be less bright than comparable gray scales. Determining the correct brightness for your applications requires taking into account the amount of ambient light (if any) in the room, the screen material used, the throw distance, and the content being shown.
1.3x Optical Zoom with 1.37 to 1.80:1 Throw Ratio
Throw ratio is one of the most important specifications a projector lens has as it tells you the image size (width) you will get at a give distance from the screen. For example, at the 1.16x zoom setting and a 10' 4" distance this projector will throw an 80"-wide (100"-diagonal) image.
4:3 Native Aspect Ratio
This projector features the XGA format, which produces a 4:3 aspect ratio picture optimal for PowerPoint presentations and many still images formats. The wider 16:9 HDTV and 16:10 computer aspect ratios can still be displayed - either by cropping the sides of the image, "letterboxing" (filling the remaining space with black bars top and bottom), or applying an anamorphic squeeze which distorts the picture.
Up to 7,000 Hours Lamp Life
When used exclusively in Low Brightness Mode the lamp is estimated to last 7,000 hours.
